Work Activity Program

Solutions Learning Centre has helped thousands of people gain the skills they need to find meaningful employment with our free program. We believe that people from all backgrounds, education levels and life experience deserve a chance to succeed, and we work together to make that a reality.

Our program focuses on you as an individual. We work with you to complete a plan unique to your strengths and personal goals. Our employment readiness programs occur in small group settings allowing for one on one support and individual growth and success. Participants work closely with our team to learn job specific skills.

With the help of ESAT, an Employability Skills Assessment Tool, we will assist you in finding a work placement in the community to apply your newly acquired skills.

During your time at Solutions, you will receive free certifications in WHMIS 2015 GHS, Emergency First Aid/CPR, Food Safety and Customer Service.

Essential Skills

During our program we will review the nine workplace essential skills which include reading, numeracy, writing, oral communication, working with others, reading text, thinking, document use and digital skills.

Our Essential Skills Facilitators work with participants in individual and group settings to deliver a curriculum based on the Nine Essential Skills necessary for successful employment. This program provides a foundation for continuous learning and enables participants to better prepare for the workforce.

Individuals work at their own pace and multiple learning styles are accommodated. We strive to have our participants engaged in the learning process.

Personal Development

Through extensive research in the community and feedback from our business partners, we know that learning and enhancing specific employability skills are one of the very best ways to obtain meaningful employment and keep it! Participants come with different skill levels which creates a rich learning experience for everyone. Integrated throughout all of our programs, our Personal Development focuses on the following 9 employability skills:

Our facilitators work with you both individually and in group workshops to develop strategies and behaviours that align with the needs and expectations of the workplace. Honest, consistent, timely, and respectful feedback is provided to you in a safe and private manner in order to optimize your success!

Job Specific Skills

Following orientation, participants begin learning in either Food Services, Environmental Services or General Office.

Our workshops cover a wide variety of topics from hands on learning, resumes to interviews, conflict resolution to stress management. These are all valuable tools for entry into the workplace.

Our free certifications in WHMIS, Emergency First Aid/CPR, Food Safety and Customer Service add real value to your new resume.

Work Placement

As a part of the program, you will get the opportunity to complete up to 10 weeks of work placement in a local business. This gives you the opportunity to gain experience with your newly developed skills and make valuable connections in the working world.  During this time you will receive a training allowance of $150.00 a month, paid bi-weekly.
