Getting Ready to Work
With the support of the SLC team, our participants have been very successful in completing their work terms, and many have gone on to full and part-time employment. With new technical and soft skills, an updated resume and solid interview skills gained through Employment Workshops, we make sure everyone is ready for their work placement.
All participants take part in Employment Skills Workshops.
No Problem! We will teach you how to build a solid resume that identifies your new skills and certifications from SLC.
We will help you write that first letter and then show you how to adapt that cover letter and resume for specific jobs.
You'll get practice with various interview formats, questions and best answers. We do mock interviews and speed interviews.
We also explore Career Development, social media and employment, job search techniques and more.
You will finish with more confidence seeking employment opportunities after completing these workshops.
As part of our 26-week program at SLC, participants will have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience during a 10-week work term with one of our community partners.
PRIOR TO PLACEMENT
Participants work closely with our Workplace Employment Coordinator to ensure a smooth transition to this next step.

Our Workplace Employment Coordinator works closely with a wide variety of employers in HRM.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN ?
Work goals, employment readiness and ensuring proper clothing, footwear, ID etc. are in place are the part of this process.
Support is provided throughout the work term, and if needed, during a period of job search following program completion.
