The growth I see in our participants from the first day they start here at Solutions Learning Centre (SLC) to the point of starting their placements is impressive. By the end of a work placement a great percentage of our participants are job ready – which includes those skills that help a person keep their jobs. My role as the Workplace Coordinator has provided me with great hope and pride in both our program and those who complete their programs.
So what is my role?
It is my distinct pleasure to work in the role as the SLC Workplace Coordinator. This role gives me the opportunity to get to know each of the participants in all of our programs and work individually with them on their employment goals. My role is responsible to find the right fit for our participants and the prospective employer.
The employers I work with are situated in the Halifax Regional Municipality – primarily in Halifax, Dartmouth and the Eastern Passage. We have also found opportunities outside of these areas and have contacts throughout the province.
My goal is to develop lasting relationships with our community partner employers. Our mutual objective is to provide meaningful work placements that gives our participants the opportunity to apply their recently learned skills and develop new skills. Many of our work placements turn into part or full time jobs; at the very least our goal from a work placement is to get a positive reference.
We change lives, and that is important to all of us.
